Father's Day Fish Fry

The Sixth Annual Father's Day Fish Fry at Grace Bible Chapel was an fun-filled, family event. The evening started with a meal of fish, beans, chips, and dessert. Thanks to those who donated fish and also to those who prepared the food and served in the kitchen.

Following the meal, a concert by Two by Four--The Ophoven Family Band--brought toe-tapping fiddle tunes to uplifting gospel music. Two by Four consists of four siblings and their parents. The four children, ranging in age from 12 to 18, have been trained in music since kindergarten. The band was formed 3 years ago and has played for various events, churches, and festivals, and fairs. After winning first place in the Stevens County Fair Talent Contest, they played at the Minnesota State Fair and recently performed at Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO. Through joyful and meaningful words, the spiritually-uplifting songs blessed everyone in the audience.

Honoring Leatha Lemen

Following the morning worship service, a potluck dinner and program were held to honor Leatha Lemen for her years of service at Grace Christian School. The program began with a review of each year Grace Christian School has been in operation, starting in 1978. Pictures were shown of each class and memories were shared about the different students.

Mrs. Lemen said she has been able to be a “friend” of many of the former students though Facebook. She said it has meant to much to her to have a contact with the students after graduation.

Individuals spoke of the memories they’d shared working at the school with Leatha, and of her love for all the students as demonstrated through her actions.

Grace Christian School Update

Dear Parents/Guardians of Grace Christian School:

May is upon us and it’s time to start getting ready for year-end events and also planning for next year.

First of all, as most of you know, Mrs. Lemen has decided to retire from supervising at our school. She has said she will be willing to sub from time to time but the everyday staff responsibilities are too much for her. To celebrate we are having a retirement potluck/roast on Sunday, June 14th at 11:45 in our fellowship hall. The potluck should last approx. 45 minutes with a program in the sanctuary to follow at about 12:30. Please plan to be a part of our time of celebration for her almost 30 years of dedication to Bible based education, and to the families and students who have been involved at GCS. If you cannot attend please write a letter of thanks and appreciation for her to have as a keepsake. It can be mailed to the school or handed to a staff member.

Minnesota Teen Challenge Visit

In Sunday's morning service, the attendees were in for a special treat when the Duluth Branch of the Minnesota Teen Challenge Choir came to share their individual testimonies. God truly touched hearts through changed their lives and willingness to show what Christ has done to bring them to the foot of the cross.

Minnesota Teen Challenge (MnTC) is one of the largest residential drug and alcohol programs in the state of Minnesota. The organization has a 60-Day drug treatment program, as well as a year long program. They serve teens and adults from all ethnic, socioeconomic and religious backgrounds. Awana Clubs Round Out Year

Wednesday evening the AWANA Clubs held at Grace Bible Chapel rounded out the year with awards and ice-cream social for clubbers, family, friends, leaders and staff. The sanctuary was filled with excited kids that wanted to show their best to the rest. With songs, presentations and a year-end video - there was something for everyone present.

Awana (an acronym for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed, from 2 Timothy 2:15), is an international evangelical nonprofit organization founded in 1950, headquartered in Streamwood, Illinois. The organization supplies local churches with weekly clubs, programs and Bible training for students in preschool through high school. The goal of Awana is that these students would come to know, love and serve Jesus Christ as Lord.

The clubs will start back up again in the fall, coinciding with the district school calendar...
